Science at Work - Winter Term 2007

The Science at Work project comprised a series of workshops in schools in partnership with The Royal Society of Chemistry and The Oxfordshire Education Business Partnership . The workshops were lead by Science and Engineering Ambassadors, (in the main trained by The Oxford Trust and CRB checked. These sessions were designed to increase students’ awareness of science in the world of work.  Students experienced a carousel of scientific workshops, many incorporating some kind of practical activity, presented by employees from a variety of local organizations.  Workshops took place in schools over half a day and involved a whole year group of KS4 students. Teams of employees went into thirteen different schools to talk about the importance of science in their work. Approximately 1800 Yr 9 students were involved.
This activity met the requirements for Element 5 and Element 7 of the Work Related Learning Framework and is designed to develop enterprise skills and attitudes.
