Oxfordshire from the Ground

For two weeks in June 2009, Science Oxford played host to a thought provoking exhibition of  Year 8 to 12 pupils digital photographs on the theme of sustainability and the environment. This project evolved from the ‘Earth from the Air Exhibition’, which was based at Oxford Castle from Sept 2008 to February 2009. The striking images produced by students of the 7 secondary schools, both independent and state, demonstrated their grasp of the digital technology, the scientific solutions to global concerns raised and how to creatively communicate their personal responses to their learning about energy use, waste, the carbon footprint of products and other impacts of human activity upon the environment. The project leader was John Cairns, a professional photographer and previously a teacher of Biology at Cherwell School.
